Grants

Grants given by The Catholic Foundation come from two distinct sources.

Each year The Catholic Foundation awards grants to the parishes, schools, and select social service agencies of the Diocese of Columbus. These grants come from two separate sources and have different timing and application procedures.

The Challenge in Changing Times Grants come from four of the six the endowments established by the diocesan-wide campaign run in the year 2000 and are awarded once a year. Those grants are available to every parish in the Diocese. The granting decisions are made by the Distribution Committee of The Challenge in Changing Times, which includes lay representatives from the 14 deaneries plus four clergy representatives. That application process occurs each spring. Applications will be available on this website during the application period.

The Focus Grants come from other unrestricted funds, primarily the Focus Funds. These funds were established by individuals who wanted their gifts to go wherever the need is greatest. The granting decisions are made by the Grants Committee, which is composed of five Board members. Three cycles govern the distribution of these grants.

Catholic Education Cycle grants are awarded in the winter. These grants are available for programs related to a Catholic School, parish religious education program, or youth ministry program within the Diocese of Columbus. All programs must support the Catholic education of youth eighteen years of age or younger. Applications are mailed to each pastor, principal, director of religious education, and youth ministers in the Diocese. Each grant award is capped at $5,000.

Social Service Cycle grants are awarded in the spring and are open only to invited specific, local Catholic charities. Grant applicatons for this cycle will not be posted.

Parish Cycle grants are awarded in the fall. Pastors may apply to fund programs or capital repairs for churches in the Columbus diocese.

Application forms and guidelines will be available on the website during the application period for each open grant cycle. You may contact Amy Parker at the Foundation office with additional questions at 614.443.8893 or aparker@catholic-foundation.org.
